Raleigh African American History Pilgrimage

Join us for an African American History Pilgrimage of the Oberlin neighborhood and downtown Raleigh on Saturday, October 19 from 10:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. where we will journey together and learn more about the rich heritage of our city. We will have the opportunity to hear from historian and Raleigh native, Carmen Cauthen, author of Historic Black Neighborhoods of Raleigh and Boxed lunches will be provided. This will be a walking pilgrimage, where we will cover several miles together, so please be advised and dress accordingly. This pilgrimage is open to the first 30 participants who register. Cost $20.
Times and Places:
9:30 a.m. — Meet at WMPC and gather at the Carol Copeland Courtyard
10:00 a.m. — Guided “Tour of Oberlin” and Q & A
12:30 p.m. — Walking tour of Freedom Park and boxed lunches
1:30 p.m. — Explore the Hargett Street murals
2:00 p.m. — Closing conversation with author and historian, Carmen Cauthen (book: Historic Black Neighborhoods of Raleigh) at WMPC
