Join us for a screening of the feature length documentary, At The River, followed by a Q&A led by filmmaker and director, Carolyn Crowder.

Carolyn Crowder, who herself was raised in Montgomery, Alabama during the Civil Rights era, set out to ask this question of Presbyterian ministers who had taken stands during those turbulent times: When did you realize that what you were being taught about race as a white Southerner was wrong? For her film, Crowder traveled throughout the Southeast, interviewing Presbyterian ministers—many of whom are now in their 80’s and 90’s—about their experiences and what it took to go against the social and cultural currents during those hard days within their local communities and congregations.

Over the past year, At The River has been shown at many of WMPC’s sister congregations and institutions, including: Mt. Pleasant Presbyterian Church (SC), FPC Fort Worth (TX), Black Mountain Presbyterian Church (NC), Union Presbyterian Seminary (VA), St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church (LA), University Presbyterian Church (NC), Government Street Presbyterian Church (AL), and dozens more.
