Confirmation @ WMPC
Confirmation is a journey that provides youth with intentional opportunities to walk alongside peers and adults, to explore and discover together what it means to belong to God and to live a life of discipleship within our church community and the world. Typically, Confirmation occurs in a student’s eighth grade year.
Confirmands are broken into table groups with each small group having two adult mentors. In small table groups and as a large class, these youth participate in lessons, service projects, retreats and conversations.
At the end of the year, the confirmands are invited to make a public profession of faith and declare their intention to continue their faith journey as a full, active member of White Memorial Presbyterian Church. It is an essential ministry and milestone in this congregation and in the lives of the families who participate.
2016-17 Confirmation Registration
Sunday, September 11, 2016 | 9:30 - 10:30 a.m.
Confirmation participants and their families are invited to join the Confirmation Directors to learn more about the upcoming year, meet leaders, and spend time with their Confirmation classmates. At the 11:00 a.m. OnPoint worship service, all confirmands will be commissioned. Please make plans to attend.
Confirmation Day Retreat
Sunday, September 18, 2016 | 10:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.
The Confirmation Class and their mentors will leave WMPC following church school and go to Milburnie Fishing Club for the day. This is a crucial time for 8th graders and their adult mentors to get to know one another as they begin this journey together.
Confirmation Spring Retreat
March 25-26, 2017 | Camp Willow Run
Families are asked to make their youth’s attendance of the Confirmation retreat a high priority. All confirmands are expected to participate.
The overnight retreat will take place at Camp Willow Run on Lake Gaston. This retreat serves as the capstone event for our year together. During the weekend, confirmands will finish writing their statement of faith, discern their own spiritual gifts, and enjoy many of the activities Camp Willow Run has to offer, including 9-Square, a giant swing, an evening campfire and a climbing wall. On Sunday morning, youth will lead a closing worship service before hopping back on the buses and heading back to Raleigh.
April 2, 2017
On Confirmation Sunday, the youth will gather for breakfast at 9:30 a.m. before heading to the 11:00 a.m. sanctuary service together. Pews are reserved for the Confirmation youth and their mentors, as well as family members of those confirmands being baptized. Each confirmand will be recognized by name and will receive their Bible. We encourage you to invite family members to share in this particular event.
