Interfaith Build 2017
The Interfaith Build 2017 starts Saturday, April 22. White Memorial will work with eight other faiths to complete a house for the Rachid Hdidane family. We are assigned four work days, and we will learn about other cultures and make new friends.

We will begin with a wall build at 7:30 AM on April 22 at the Habitat construction facility at 2615 Westinghouse Blvd. Following the wall build, a wall raising ceremony will be at the house site, 3016 Camden Creek Drive, at 11:45 and work will continue into the afternoon. All are encouraged to attend. White Memorial is scheduled to work the following Saturdays: April 22, May 6, May 20, and June 17. Thursdays and Fridays are work dates open to everyone through July 1.

We need volunteers to furnish lunch for 25 on two of our Saturday workdays. Please call Harry Montgomery at 919-280-7733 to volunteer for meals and sign up at http://vhub.at/interfaithbuild to volunteer for construction. No experience required.

Honduras Mission http://www.whitememorial.org/uploads/Habitat-Honduras-1.jpgTrip
The Honduras Mission trip is scheduled for March 4-12. This Habitat Global Village trip to Santa Rosa de Copan will be led by Gloria Johnson and Pam Stewart, a retired Wake Habitat staff member. The team of 22 which includes White Memorial members, Habitat Wake staff, and Presbyterians from other area congregations will work on house construction. The group may also visit Mayan ruins, a bird park, coffee plantation, sugar manufacturing plant and a girls’ orphanage.

Santaurio Hispanic Fellowship
White Memorial is partnering with and assisting a prospective new Presbyterian congregation. We will be providing funds to sponsor Santuario’s participation in various Habitat events in 2017 including the Interfaith Build, the Presbyterian Build and the three White Memorial home preservation projects to take place during the summer.

Home Preservation Projects
White Memorial will sponsor 3 home preservation projects in 2017. The focus will be to involve congregational members, especially families with youth ages 14 and older (accompanied by a parent), in minor repair projects. Projects typically involve painting, caulking, deck repair, handicap ramp construction, siding repair, yard work, and occasionally roof repair. Locations have not been determined but the dates are:

            July 21 & 22
August 18 & 19
September 22 & 23

Watch for updates here and in the church newsletter, or email Harry Montgomery for information.

Presbyterian Build
We have no involvement in 2017, but will return in 2018. This is an every other year project that we alternate with the Interfaith Build.

Wall Build/Day of Service 2017
The focus is to involve congregational members ages 16 and older in building walls in Habitat’s construction facility. Youth need to bring a signed parent consent form with them to the site.

This is a joint project with the Community Service Committee.
The date is: Saturday, October 21, 8:00 AM
2615 Westinghouse Blvd.
We will need about 40 people to build all of the walls in about 2 hours!

Continue to check this site or the church newsletter for updated information, or contact Harry Montgomery, White Memorial’s Habitat coordinator.

Habitat Interfaith Build 2016

White Memorial will participate in the 2017 Interfaith Build (Dates and location yet to be determined). The 2016 Interfaith Build house has been completed and was dedicated on June 28.

Habitat is a great way to meet others in the area that share a common sense of mission and believe in affordable housing for all. No special skills are needed, so everyone is welcomed to participate. Volunteers from White Memorial donate time, talents, and money to this international charity. Contact Gloria Johnson with further questions about White Memorial's participation.
